Tip: we recommend Etsy for buying plants. Look for the best rated seller you can, and try to buy as close to your home as possible so the plant does not travel too far.

A note about affiliate links: when you buy a plant, pots, soil, or other goods through links on this article we sometimes earn a commission. It doesn’t cost you anything, but it really helps us out if you do use them. Thanks a lot! An example of this is if you buy a plant on Etsy using this link. Light Needs

It is used to growing under large canopies in tropical forests; hence, it requires diffused light or partial shade. Don’t get it wrong! Hoya Sagillatis loves bright sunlight, just not direct sunlight. Under sun stress, the leaves turn red or burgundy, which is a sign it needs shade.

How Often To Water Hoya Sigillatis

As an epiphyte, it prefers airy, well-draining soil that does not hold water for long. In this regard, the soak and dry method work well by allowing the soil enough time to dry. Insert your finger in the top layer of the soil, and water only when it feels dry, once or twice a week.

Fertilizer

Fertilising it regularly is not necessary, but light feeding once a month maximizes the growth and helps the plant mature faster. Make sure you do not over fertilise it and feed it only during the growing months to prevent burning.

Soil

The right potting soil makes all the difference! It requires light, well-draining soil to prevent waterlogging and various root diseases. Adding perlite, coconut coir, and bark to the mix further aids in enhancing the drainage, chunky orchid bark too. See our guide here: Hoya Soil.

When to Repot Hoya Sigillatis

The plant does not grow long roots, so outgrowing the container is seldom an issue. Besides, it does not react well to changes in positions as well. Your plant may not even need repotting all its life; however, if you see the roots peeking through the drainage holes, transfer it to a larger pot.

Humidity

Due to its hot, humid native environment, it thrives best in moderate to high humidity. The humidity level should ideally be between 65-85%. If you live in a dry climate with low humidity, consider investing in a humidifier or misting your plants regularly.

Temperature

It prefers temperatures anywhere between 60-95°F (15-35°C). It cannot survive cold temperatures, so do not leave it out below 12°C (54°F).

How to Propagate Hoya Sigillatis

Stem cuttings are the easiest way of propagating this houseplant. Take a few cuttings during the spring and plant them in the summer or spring. You can propagate Hoya Sigillatis in both soil and water and see the roots emerging in a few weeks. I would propagate them in water for a month or two then move them to soil after that and keep them really humid until they grow new leaves.
