Light Needs

Give them medium to bright indirect sunlight, the more the better, but they will tolerate being little bit back from the window.

How Often To Water An Anthurium Scandens

They like to sit in soil that is a bit moist, but not soggy. Don’t let them dry out completely.

Tip: keep the moist but don’t let them get water logged. Check the soil weekly in the winter and twice in the summer, water them when top 25% of soil is dry.

Fertilizer

Feed a high nitrogen feed once a month in spring and summer to encourage growth. They’ll be ok if you don’t feed them, they’ll just grow slower.

Soil

Plant them in a mix of orchid bark, perlite, and potting compost so that they have a chunky but sell draining mix. For more on anthurium soil (what to buy and how to make your own) see our guide here: Anthurium Soil.

When To Repot An Anthurium Scandens

Check them in spring and repot them if they are outgrowing their current pot. This is a good time to propagate the plant.

Humidity

They love a humid environment, aim for 60-80%. Mist them too if you cannot get it that high.

Anthurium Scandens Temperature

They’ll do best in the range 18°C to 25°C (64-77°F). Try to keep them above 10°C (50°F) at night.

How To Propagate Anthurium Scandens

It is a rhizomatous plant, so you need to take it out of its pot and divide it at the rhizome at the base. You’ll need a plant big enough with pups around the base that can be separated off. Take as much soil off the rotos and rhizome as you can and then take the smaller plants off by dividing the rhizome as carefully as you can. Then pot them up in different pots and you’re done.
