Light Needs

The best light conditions for a philodendron plowmanii is bright indirect sunlight but no direct sun.

How Often to Water

Check it once a week and water it only if the soil is mostly dry. This way you won’t under or overwater you plowmanii.

Fertilizer

Use a high nitrogen feed once a month in the warmer summer and spring months to get quicker leaf growth.

Soil

A rich and chunky, well draining mix is ideal. I use a mix of orchid bark, perlite and normal potting compost. For more on Philodendron soil see our guide on what to buy or how to make your own: Philodendron Soil.

How To Propagate Philodendron Plowmanii

Propagating a philodendron plowmanii is easy, you just need a node cutting and plant it in wet sphagnum moss. It is a good idea to wait half a day after taking the cutting before putting it in the moss so that the wound has time to heal. Keep it moist and humid with plenty of indirect sunlight and you should have a well rooted plant to pot up.

Philodendron Plowmanii USDA Zone

They can grow outdoors year-round in zones 9-11.

When To Repot

Repot them when they outgrow their current pot, check them in spring especially so you can give them a bigger pot if they need it over the spring and summer when they will grow most.

Tip: give it as wide a pot as you can so that the plant can grow sideways, it will put out bigger and bigger leaves the more horizontal space you can give it.

Humidity

60% is a good humidity to aim for with a plowmanii. They will do well in humid environments. You can up the humidity around the plant by keeping them with other plants and putting a pebble tray full of water underneath them.

Temperature

The philodendron plowmanii will do well in normal household temperatures as long as it does not get too cold in winter. The ideal range is 15-32°C (59-90°F).
